Hi! I am an illustrator and graphic cartoonist who dabbles quite a bit in biological illustration and scientific visualization. I have a Bachelor's in Fine Art Degree in Illustration from the Academy of Art, University in San Francisco, California. I'm also an alumni of the legendary, Kubert School of Graphic Art, in Dover, NJ.

In 2012, my wife and I started a boutique clothing company called Cotton Crustacean. Scroll down to see our designs, featuring my scientific illustrations of prehistoric marine life, printed on premium, American Apparel tees. Visit us at www.cottoncrustacean.com

When not drawing crabs or sea cucumbers, I play guitar and sing in the progressive rock band, GIANT SQUID (www.giantsquidlives.com) and play bass in the Jaws obsessed, pirate-sludge band, SQUALUS (going-to-need-a-bigger-boat.ba…).

Current Residence: Sharp Park, Pacifica, CA

Carnotaurus by aaronjohngregory
Carnotaurus
Carnotaurus's in love, yes; but in actuality this is the album cover I was hired to do for a local Bay-area band, who I'll announce once they have! It's for a 7" single called "Love is What You Bring on Home".

Wolverine... in a Pond by aaronjohngregory
Wolverine... in a Pond
I realized I hadn't penciled AND inked AND colored a single super hero since I left the Kubert school in 2010, having only drawn one pencil sketch of Havok and Wolverine for an assignment at AAU, that I then digitally colored. The initial reason I went to art school was to draw comics and all my favorite characters, and I've been jonesing to draw some as of late. So just for fun, over the weekend I sketched up my favorite mutie of all time as a bit of practice to start wrapping my ahead around what it takes to draw these dudes again. Maybe I'll do a series of superheroes... in ponds!

Anatomy is completely out of my head, so please feel free to critique.

Sad thing is, just after I spontaneously decided to draw Wolverine for the first time in a quite a while, the first artist to ever draw the character, Herb Trimpe, fell ill and died on 4/13/15. Heartbreaking. Here's to Herb.

Meeting Herb Trimpe. by aaronjohngregory

The legendary comic book artist, Herb Trimpe, died last night (4-13). A huge loss for the comic world. Known for drawing Godzilla, Transformers, and GI Joe (three of my favorite things growing up,) amongst many, many other titles for Marvel Comics; he is especially legend for his work on the Incredible Hulk, where he was the first person to draw Wolverine when the character appeared in issue #181.

Here I am with him at San Diego Comic Con in 2013, showing him my tattoo of the cover of that book. He was beside himself to see it and insisted on getting a picture together. Him and his wife were the nicest people, and he'll always be a real inspiration.
I've been chosen to represent my 2015 BFA graduating class at the Academy of Art, University as their valedictorian. A truly immense honor for me! Time to prepare my speech, which I'll have to give in front of something like 10,000 people at the Cow Palace.
AAU article by aaronjohngregory

Walked in to class today on the first day of my very last week, ever, as an BFA student in Illustration at AAU, and saw this huge one page feature article in the Academy of Art, University paper. Of course, I did the interwiew a while back, so knew something was going to come out eventually, but a FULL PAGE!? Honored and floored. My teachers we're equally stoked and proud to see it. What a great way to wrap up 5.5 years of non-stop, full time art school.

Here's a digital version of it online - much easier to read. blogs.academyart.edu/newspaper…
